Testimonial by Laura and Raquel, lesbian mums using the ROPA Method

Laura and Raquel’s story of their journey is full of optimism and positivity that can help encourage other couples to take the plunge into becoming lesbian mothers.

This process is never easy, but we have seen that the ROPA method has the advantage of using the highest quality eggs.

We would love to help you make your dreams come true. Just like ours came true.

Here is their story and also a beautiful photograph that they sent.

Testimonial by Laura and Raquel.

Hi, we are Laura and Raquel.

After years of enjoying each other’s company, we decided we wanted to start a family and share our love with a baby.

Being two girls the process itself is not as romantic as the original idea.

Since I’m a very positive person I was convinced that we would be successful on the first try, but then we got some devastating news.

Some years ago I had been an egg donor, and now at 38 years old, my anti-mullerian hormone level (AMH) was low. This indicates that either I have few or low-quality follicles.

Despite this, we decided to go ahead with a round of IVF, but it was unsuccessful.

After this disappointment, we weren’t so positive anymore. We decided to go in a different direction, so we contacted LESMATERNITY.

They recommended the clinic that they work with and we really liked the one-on-one treatment that they provide for homosexual couples. They are very detail oriented and adapt to what works for your family. It saved us a lot of headaches and mistakes like which medication to take, and when to take it in order to get the sperm ready.
We decided to give my eggs another try to see if even with the low anti-mullerian hormone it could work, but it was a no-go. So, we cancelled that round since it was just going to hurt our chances.
Then, they recommended that we try the ROPA method and we thought it was such a romantic notion of being able to share this maternity journey together.

Now we were both involved, one was going to knead the dough and the other was going to bake it.
After two failed attempts, we were revitalised. Now we had to wait.

The day we took the test it all started in the bathroom, we looked at it for what seemed like forever until the little screen read “pregnant”.

We couldn’t believe it! The stick was still trying to calculate how far along.

It seemed like maybe this time it was true!

While hugging and crying, we had every thought you can think of go through our heads, such as, the test was wrong and that it was just playing a prank on us, and that in a couple of weeks it would be negative. Our minds were racing.

Slowly we realised that it was true, that the test was right and we were beyond happy.

It was a perfect pregnancy! On the 40th week, this little baby arrived and he’s stolen our hearts.

It was an amazing experience, and we recommend it. Does it change your life? Yes. It’s a new stage in our lives, and now all the problems that we had in the beginning seem so far away. Every time I see his smile I know it was worth it!

Stay positive girls!

Testimonial by Laura and M. José

Laura and M. Jose are two lesbian mothers that used the ROPA Method.

Their dream of having a baby has come true. This is a feeling we are very familiar with and you could too.

They’ve sent us a family photo. Don’t they look ecstatic?

It’s such an amazing feeling for us to see your happy faces…

Here is their story. It’s very emotional.

Testimonial by two lesbian mums: Laura and M. Jose

I can’t believe how time flies. A year ago we had no idea how we would make our dream (BECOMING MUMS!) come true.

It’s a difficult process that is made easier when you find the right people who share their own experiences and journey with you.

That’s exactly what happened to us.

By accident, we stumbled on a website, Lesmaternity, and we got in touch with them. We met with Bea who explained everything about the ROPA Method and she referred us to a clinic where they treated us like family. They were different than other businesses that are usually insensitive to couples like us.

We scheduled our first appointment for October 3rd. We were nervous.

But, we left the clinic with a very positive attitude. We were so pleased that we decided to choose Lesmaternity to make our dreams come true.

We started the treatment and, after a couple of anxious days, we had the egg transfer. We really hoped that everything had gone well.

The worst part is the wait. The days feel longer! It’s hard to not get your hopes up, but your mind immediately goes there.

The day arrives… and… you want to look. But you don’t.

All these feelings rush in, it’s indescribable!

Finally, we took a peek and… POSITIVE!

Our dream! We got it! We couldn’t believe it! Anything is possible!

Our little Maria was born this year on the 4th of July, and she’s the best part of our lives.

We will never forget that thanks to people like Bea and Lesmaternity we can finally hold our dream in our arms. All I can say is: THANK YOU!

We encourage other couples like us to never give up. Sooner or later THE DREAM COMES TRUE!

Testimonial by Esther and Marta

Esther and Marta are a couple that got pregnant with the help of Lesmaternity.

They are happy and we couldn’t be more proud.  We love to see the happiness that this journey brought them.

Here they share with us their experience from last year, which was not as pleasant as they had hoped. Still, they prevailed. As they say, this isn’t over, it’s just begun!

This is their story (the names have been changed in order to respect their privacy).

Hi, we are two women that wanted to start a family just like any other couple out there. I’ll tell you about our journey
so far.

A year ago we started researching clinics. After a few interviews,  we decided to go with artificial insemination. The price included three rounds. The test results were excellent; the doctor said I had good odds
and I had three rounds… so I felt good. The only “negative” was my age: 36. I took my medication fairly well. Sometimes following the schedule was difficult because of work hours but the needle pricks and timing the shots wasn’t a problem.

The insemination procedure is very simple, it only takes about 10 minutes. The worst part is waiting for the next 15 days when you’re unsure as to whether or not you are pregnant. You can’t tell if what you’re feeling is normal: if you should or shouldn’t do certain things… it’s been the hardest part for me. When the date was nearing I was afraid of going to the bathroom in case I had started spotting.

We did a lot of research on the internet that made us more insecure, such as: every woman is different, it feels like you’re getting your period, relax, distract yourself …

All three rounds were the same for us: two days before I was supposed to take the pregnancy test I would get my
period. I’m not sure which time was more painful. It was disappointing but we couldn’t give up. I did the three rounds consecutively. The doctor kept giving me hope. On my last failed attempt the doctor said that I shouldn’t try for a fourth as it was pointless.

I guess when something like this happens when you can’t get pregnant, you want to blame someone and so I blamed my doctor. I didn’t like the way they handled things, it was cold. Maybe I was expecting more attentiveness or that they showed more interest during that 15 days wait, especially since I did three rounds. I don’t know.

We chatted with some friends who were also trying. They mentioned LesMaternity.

I contacted Beatriz and she recommended a clinic in Barcelona where she had her treatment and we headed there.
The way they handled things, their front desk, facilities… it was so much better than the first one we went to.

I gave them all my tests and they gave me two options: IVF or artificial insemination. We talked about the statistics and odds, and we decided we would go with IVF.

We didn’t want to have another failure.

Everything was different. More medication.

During the extraction, they removed many eggs and 10 looked good. We decided to use two in case one didn’t take,
even though the doctor said that one would be enough since everything had gone so well.

I had to wait until my next period because of the hyperstimulation procedure. Two weeks later we returned to the clinic for the embryo transfer.

For the next couple of days during this “waiting period” I felt very different than the other times. I still had my doubts. It was three days before our doctor’s appointment and since we knew that the medication I was taking prevented me from getting my period we decided to take a pregnancy test and yes +++++. Hugs, tears, calls…

We hardly slept that night (I did the test before and with the urine at night). The colour in the test was so dark that we already thought both embryos had taken. Two days later I took the test again… same dark colour. I called the doctor and we made an appointment for the first ultrasound in two weeks. But a week before I started spotting. All those old feelings started to rush back, fear, doubts. The third test was still positive… I called the doctor and got an earlier date for the ultrasound just to be safe.

We went back to the clinic.

It’s truly amazing when you see those two little babies inside you through that machine!
Yes, Yes. Two.

The doctor was right. We could see their hearts beating. Amazing!

We walked out of there that day with the first photo of our future children, though, we are still wary since now the 6-week wait starts.

That’s where we are. We are extremely happy and also a bit scared that it’s two of them but we can’t wait to confirm
it so that we can start buying things for them and get everything ready for their
arrival.

This is the story of our journey, but it doesn’t end here.

Testimonial by Laura and Maria Jose

It makes us extremely happy when couples come to Lesmaternity and their dreams of becoming pregnant come true.

Congratulations Laura and Maria Jose and thank you so much for your words of encouragement.

We wish you all the happiness in the world!

This is their story:

We are Laura and Maria Jose.

Like many other couples who have been together for 6 and a half years, we made one of the most important decisions of our lives: STARTING OUR OWN FAMILY!

During our research, we had a lot of doubts, which made us feel like we had even more questions.

Finally, we found this website by accident.  We thought it was very interesting how other couples, like us, could make their wish of BECOMING MUMS come true, so we reached out to Bea.

They got back to us very quickly.  We had a meeting where she explained the steps and shared her own experience. She told us that we should get in touch with the clinic.

We called and everything from then on went very quickly.  The staff was friendly and attentive all the time.

We started this journey on October 3rd, 2016 with some setbacks, all mostly related to the timing of menstruation, but eventually, we were on track.

After some routine visits to the clinic, M. Jose started the hormone treatments on the third day of her period.

Sometime later after several more routine checks, Dr. Luis finally set the date (everything moved really fast, but the process itself was very slow and daunting).

The artificial insemination was performed on October 17, 2016, and we had to wait 15 days for the result.

We tried to be realistic about it all since the statistics show that the odds are low in our situation, but we also were optimistic that maybe our hopes and dreams would help us beat those odds.

Finally, the day to take the pregnancy test came. With some nerves and a lot of excitement, we waited 3 minutes for the result: POSITIVE!

In that moment of surprise, joy, and excitement you forget all the waiting, nerves and treatments that got you here. You can only think about how your dreams just came true.

We are now 11 weeks into the pregnancy and during our 6 week ultrasound we could hear our baby’s heartbeat.

We would like to thank Lesmaternity, especially Bea, for all the help and attentiveness during the process and pregnancy, and most of all, for her honesty.

I also want to thank Dr. Luis and his staff for showing us such great professionalism and kindness.

To all those other couples out there we would like to say that they should never give up on their dreams.  Sooner or later they will come true.

If you have any doubts or questions you should contact Lesmaternity.

Testimonial by Laura and Gemma

We just received this testimonial from a happy couple.
They have become mothers using the ROPA method and they are truly grateful.

This is their story:

“Nine months ago at BCN IVF we had two embryos transferred.
Ines and Dario were born healthy and strong on 6/9/2016.
We would like to thank Lesmaternity for pointing us in the direction of the clinic and for giving us the courage to once again go through with this process after a failed attempt.
We would like to know if you belong or know of any LGBT parenting associations? We believe it’s important for our children to experience and be around a great variety of families.  We would love more information about it.
Cheers!!

Laura, Gemma, Ines and Dario.”

We are extremely happy that your dreams of becoming parents have come true.
You could be next!

Testimonial by Marta and Silvia

We thought 2015 would be our time to become mums.

We foolishly thought that any fertility clinic in Barcelona could help us with the ROPA method (since in the 10 years we’ve been together, this has been how we envisioned our life plan working out).  We were so wrong!

We started doing some price checking and going to different appointments, and they all insisted they had a lot of experience with ROPA. Finally, we settled on a well-known clinic.

From then our bad experience began. The team members would act like they disapproved or were surprised we would choose the ROPA method over IVF or even AI. We also had a lot of difficulties getting them to schedule us together and then we had two consecutive failed attempts (without frozen embryos).

After this disappointment, we decided to push it to 2016.  We found Lesmaternity and we were interested in knowing what made them stand out, so we contacted them.

When we met with Beatriz and later with Dr. Zamora we realised we didn’t have to put it off anymore.  There was another way.  They had a professional team, including front desk, accounting, nursing, anesthesiologists, biologists, and of course gynecologists.

Everything has been excellent and their experience with lesbian couples is remarkable.  (We assume that a big part of this is due to Lesmaternity)

To make a long story short, if everything goes right we will become mums to two babies next August. This is exactly what we wished for and we are so happy to hear that Lesmaternity has kept helping more women like us.

Thanks Beatriz and Marga.

“Emotions run high when you consider starting or expanding your family, and sometimes these feelings can be overwhelming.

The legal aspects of it seemed daunting to us, but thanks to the girls at LesMaternity MHC our worries and doubts quickly disappeared. They gave us so much guidance and confidence in what we were doing. We are taking a pregnancy test in three days and we will find out if this journey continues. We realise now that no matter what the outcome is, we still believe that the ROPA method was the right choice for us.  Sharing this experience has strengthened our relationship tenfold. Taking this journey together has made us so happy, and it’s helped us embrace our fear as a friend and not an enemy.”

Eli and Angi are currently 10 weeks pregnant.

“Thank you so much for providing answers when we needed them the most”

While doing research about different centres and clinics we stumbled upon an article about ROPA and we loved it.  I’ve always wanted to be pregnant and feel a life growing inside me so we decided that I would be the implanted mother and, since she is younger, my partner would be the biological one.  This way we would both feel like mums.

At first, we went to a well-known clinic in Barcelona, but we were very disappointed when they told us that we had to be married or in a defacto relationship in order to proceed. We knew that this isn’t something that heterosexual couples have to deal with.  We felt a bit helpless.

We found out that the LesMaternity MHC girls were having a briefing about the ROPA method at Casal Lambda.  We enjoyed the meeting so much that by the end of it we knew we wanted to try the method with them.

A couple of months later our test was positive! During our first ultrasound, we heard two heartbeats and found out we were expecting twins!

We are now two expectant mothers waiting for two babies that will be the light of our lives, all thanks to Lesmaternity and that initial meeting.”
